All these secrets I could never say out loud I can sing them to a crowd — Forever in These Strings, written by Erin Stoll, Scot Sax, Caleb Storie
If Erin Stoll’s story as a singer/songwriter and touring artist was a vinyl record, this is the point where it’s time to flip the record to side B and listen to another chapter unfold. With tracks such as, “This Song Has Not Been Written,” from her debut full-length album, ”Wired Differently”, Stoll confesses that the call for an artist is to relentlessly pursue honesty with no illusions that the pursuit will ever end. The Nashville-based, singer/songwriter, indie rock n roller, and 2024 winner of the Josie Music Awards, Song of the Year, moved to Nashville in October and started writing and tracking her new album the very next day at Little Hollywood Creative. With Grammy-award winning songwriter, Scot Sax, producing, in just three weeks, “Wired Differently” was complete — a 10 song driving-down-the-highway-windows-rolled-down, Americana rock n roll album with notes of Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks, Heart and underground indie pop queen, Jenny Lewis.
“This is a good idea,” is a simple line Stoll sings with full belief as she explores her own personal adventure from living in a rural Ohio town for most of her life and ultimately letting go of letting down other people while moving her family of five to East Nashville, one of the country’s most thriving music and art scenes. Do you have to live forever where you were born?
— Trying to Leave, written by Erin Stoll, Scot Sax, Caleb Storie
Stoll happily got started in music with no formal training, playing dive bars in a small town, performing songs like “Midnight Train to Georgia,” but as her experience and fan base continued to organically grow, complicated feelings of moving on from the hometown that held her beloved family, friends, and a horse named Brie, entered the picture. Wired Differently is an unapologetic album about overcoming self-doubt, embracing life, and taking risks.
“It’s so hard to be human, don’t even know whatcha doing You just can’t tell by the faces, wires in different places”
— Wired Differently, written by Erin Stoll, Scot Sax, Caleb Storie
Nominated for seven awards at the 10th Annual Josie Awards, presented at the Grand Ole Opry, Stoll took home Song of the Year - Southern Rock/Country Rock, in the first week of calling Tennessee home. In a world where releasing independent music and avoiding the pitfalls of modern record label deals have been more common, Stoll has managed to create a grass-roots, rapid momentum in gaining fans and listeners across the country. To sacrifice any of her artistic energy to modern music business challenges is not Stoll’s way. “I’m an open book,” she says, and that authenticity is present in her voice, songwriting, live shows and engagement with her fans in various mediums of self expression.
Been here since Tuesday afternoon, got some good advice Don’t sing your songs, don’t play guitar, mama know that ain’t nice I know they gotta make a buck, but I ain’t here to sing about trucks
— Six String Horse, written by Erin Stoll, Scot Sax, Caleb Storie
Stoll is no stranger to the ups and downs of deals-gone-wrong with managers and producers, but as a result, she is more clear than ever on remaining musically true to who she is. After working together on a music video several years ago. Stoll stayed in touch with Scot Sax who is a Grammy award winning songwriter (Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Lilly Hiatt), filmmaker, photographer and visual artist that has in his own music career toured as opening act for Robert Plant/Allison Krauss and The Who, and worked extensively with the legendary producer, Don Was, recording his RCA-signed band, Wanderlust. This year, Stoll and Sax decided it was time to write, record and produce an album together. On meeting Stoll, Sax says, “I just liked everything about how she made people feel in the room, her genuine, unashamed enthusiasm. I had seen mostly big ego divas up to that point.” Sax’s style of capturing music “in the moment” worked symbiotically with Stoll’s drive, talent, and affinity for taking artistic risks. And Sax documented with video and photos the three-week process of making, Wired Differently. Fans of Stoll’s new album will have a unique glimpse into the work. While the musical cast is small with Sax playing many instruments in addition to Dylan Sevey on drums (The Minks), Bear Mitchell on bass, and Stoll’s band/partner, Caleb Storie on guitar and piano, the resulting sound of the album has little indication of minimalism. Sax believes that working with limitations actually drives a seamless connection of sounds, grooves, and hooks throughout each track and stays true to the classic rock n roll art form.
Stoll’s indie career has additionally earned her seven 2024 award nominations from the International Singer Songwriter Association, including Entertainer of the Year, and winner of ESPN Cleveland’s - The Really Big Break Contest. Her 2025 calendar will be busy with touring nationally, playing festivals, an exciting roll out of her first full length album, and engaging with fans on social media, something she truly loves. She additionally enjoys shining a light on other independent creators of art, music, fashion, food and more, and is not shy about singing their praises to her fans. Wired Differently is set to release in March of 2025.
